This gorgeously renovated Georgian manor home is welcoming, historic and architecturally unique. The main building dates to the 1700’s, with subsequent additions over the years. The owners have thoughtfully and beautifully restored the entire property, taking great care to combine modern luxury details and period charm with decor reflecting the eclectic and tasteful sensibilities of the world travelers that they are. Set on a large estate of lush acreage that leads down to the meandering Bandon River and only 10 minutes from the heart of Kinsale, it is an Irish gem full of spacious and interesting rooms, comfortable, plush and inviting furnishings and landscape portrait-worthy grounds and gardens perfect for parties and portraits.

The main house boasts 14 ensuite bedrooms, each decorated in a different world theme, from Japan to Australia, Africa to Bali, with Georgian and Irish Country added to the mix. Two four-bedroom cottages are located nearby, able to accommodate larger groups. A ballroom and event space make it possible to accommodate families, parties and holiday or event gatherings of any size up. The layout of the bedrooms and common spaces make it easy to open up or make more intimate the amount of space occupied and enjoyed by various sized groups. With a Library, Breakfast room, private Bar, multiple sitting rooms and a smoking room, it is rather difficult to describe this one-of-a-kind property, but it can perhaps best be summed up by a single word that pops to mind whenever we stay here: Incredible.

This luxury Irish rental property is serviced, with staff on the grounds who will make themselves as available or as scarce as you wish them to be. Daily gourmet breakfasts and housekeeping is included, much like a hotel or B&B, but unless you would like to hire additional cooking, bartending, or entertainment services, or plan to have a large event here, the impressive manor (and cottages if also rented) will be at your exclusive and private disposal.

Entry & Layout

The middle part of the current house dates from 1700.  Two wings were added a bit later.  One early owner, a well-known artist of the time, painted several murals that remain on the house’s walls.  The current owners have completely renovated the building borrowing from their time lived in the Far East and Australia.  It’s an eclectic interpretation, and it is wonderful.

Enter into a welcoming hallway with a stairway up to 2 bedrooms (the Irish Country and Irish Georgian bedroom suites).  The West Wing is to the left of the  entrance hall and includes a small sitting room, breakfast room, flexible dining or meeting room, Spa & Massage room, and the Japan, Thai, Bali, China, India and Kashmir bedroom suites. The East Wing is the right and features an interconnected sitting room, large professional kitchen, the “Snug,” a Games and Cigar Room, the Pub (yes, the pub, your own private Speakeasy), small dining & ballroom, large reception/event hall, and upstairs a small sitting area adjacent to the hallways that lead to the Tudor, French, Italian, African, Australian & Moroccan bedroom suites.

The first room on the left of the entry is a wood-paneled sitting room that harkens back to the stately offices and sitting rooms of statesmen, cognac and cigars.  It contains the throne of a former Bishop of Sligo, lithographs of some pages of the Book of Kells, green leather sofas and wing chairs, a fireplace, an ornate chandelier. This room leads into the breakfast room and down to the East Wing hallway, bedrooms and private spa suite.

To the right of the entry hall is a dramatic long reception room with faux leather walls, Chinese red furniture, art, plants, good lighting, interesting art, mood lighting, windows facing the courtyard and a double-fronted fireplace with a wood stove insert which divides the room into two seating areas. Through this room and down about 5 steps is the Snug, which is a small room with nooks and flexible seating, as well as a curtained off area for cigar smokers and lovers alike. The Snug leads into the Speakeasy, the small private bar that will be your own personal pub for your group’s gathering. It is such great fun.

If you skip the snug and head up the back stairs you’ll find a small sitting room between the two hallways that lead to the upstairs bedrooms in the East Wing, plus an upstairs outdoor terrace, as well as an indoor balcony that looks over the red-walled sitting room below.

At the back of the pub is a door to the outdoor living space which includes sofas, pizza oven, covered patio, open patio, and doors into the large event room. The attached ballroom doubles as a formal dining and event space. It is wonderful and features some of the murals done by a long-ago owner of the property.

Living Areas - Drawing Rooms

The communal rooms in this unique manor house are compact, interconnected and lovely. Tall ceilings, large windows and tons of light frame each interesting space, highlighting the plush, comfortable and rich furniture, artwork and thoughtful details that fill every room.

The double sitting room features two sofas, matching easy chair, two wingback armchairs and several occasional chairs, as well as a grand piano, gorgeous antique writing desk and large marble fireplace. There is lovely artwork and an antique tapestry adorning the walls.

The Green Room feels like it belongs to the captains of industry in the early 1900s. The dark green leather chairs, throne, and lithographs from the Book of Kells are all very stately and impressive.

Dining Rooms & Kitchen

There are several eating areas, including the breakfast room, the meeting room off the breakfast room, the ballroom for formal and flexible dining, and the extra large event room used for large event dining.

The kitchen is first class, and lovely, but as this is not a self-catering property, it will be used primarily by your staff to prepare your delicious breakfasts each morning, as well as any snacks, suppers or meals that you wish to arrange served to you. The on-staff chef is a Michelin-level gourmet and you will NOT regret a bite.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

All of the bedrooms are amazing, and each is decorated with a different theme. All are ensuite, with beautifully and luxuriously appointed bathrooms.

Grounds

This luxury holiday home sits on 40 acres, surrounded by lawns, gardens and woodlands, with the beautiful Bandon River running right through the property. It is very private, lacking close neighbors, and featuring park-like trails to explore. The manor grounds are beautifully kept and inviting for walks, for relaxation, for playing in the grass, on the play structures or simply wandering the woods. The impeccably detailed and thoughtful owners (who live in a separate area out-of-sight on the property, and will be glad to be as available or invisible as you require) have stocked the place with outdoor games, including croquet, badminton and boules.

The gardens, designed along the river that meandersthrough the property, have mature trees and shrubs, some of which are rare specimen plantings.  The owners have added to the wonder: making pathways and sitting areas  and outdoor “rooms”.  This is truly a park. It’s so large and so well-planned that one might not know if there were other strollers nearby.

There is a helipad, a children’s playground, a croquet lawn, a picnic area, a pond, walking paths, a forest, stables with dressage and a jumping area.  This place is another world.

Two Detached 4-bedroom Cottages (Additional Rental)

A recent addition to the house, the ground floor garden apartments offer a two-bedroom, 1 bathroom suite with kitchenette and a large 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom suite with an additional fold-out couch and television set. Location:

This vacation rental is in terrific position for touring County Cork, with some of the best scenery in Ireland.  The house is positioned close to Kinsale Village, a gorgeous heritage fishing town full of gourmet food, art and boating events. There are several 18-hole golf courses within half hours drive of the house, the most famous being Old Head at Kinsale. The gorgeous beaches of Cork are close, with boating, fishing and watersports to enjoy.
