About This Accommodation

This luxurious and beautiful Georgian house is located on an estate of over 670 acres. The grounds are mature and lush: trees, rhododendron, manicured lawns, flower beds and borders and extensive meadows. One enters the wide front hallway that is also a comfortable, informal reception room. It has a Chippendale sofa with coral upholstery, a wing chair upholstered in needlepoint fabric, an antique grandfather clock, a baby grand piano, a fireplace, paintings of the owner's father and some of his favorite horses. Oriental rugs are laid on the original oak floor. A graceful stairway, carpeted in red, goes up to the second floor.

The large dining room is to the right of the reception area. Twelve can sit comfortably at the antique mahogany dining table. There is a sideboard for serving, an Oriental rug, a swag frieze, bird prints, a fireplace with a white mantle. Walls are painted a delicious pinkish-red. Two large windows face the side gardens. The service kitchen is off the dining room. This is used by staff. There is a fully equipped guest kitchen on the other side of the house. You'll see that in a minute.

The very large and elegant drawing room is to the left of the front hallway. This is a true country house drawing room. It has a cozy sitting area in front of the fireplace: two sofas, one a pinkish-beige and one with a floral pattern, two easy chairs upholstered in coral fabric, a large coffee table. There are many books for you to enjoy and paintings, and fine antiques. An Oriental rug is laid on beige carpeting. Four large windows look onto the manicured gardens and to the meadows beyond the gardens.

At the back of the drawing room, French doors open to the TV room. It is a long, narrow space, very comfortable, intimate, but not small. It has a flatscreen TV, a DVD player, a sofa and easy chairs covered in gold-yellow, a corner cabinet, many paintings and fresh flowers. A desk and chair is placed in front of a meadow-facing window.

The large guest kitchen is behind the TV room. It is bright and light and spotless. There is all of the kitchen equipment that one could possibly want -

and more. There are two tables; one is in the middle of the room and one is in a corner under a window. Views are to the Slaney Estuary and toward Wexford town.

A games room, with a fullsized pool table, is beyond the kitchen. It is a very large room that has a brick fireplace and a brick floor, fine antique furniture, a rare antique map of the area hanging on the wall, easy chairs, games, books. Two tall windows look to the side gardens and the meadows.

Off the games room, there is a spiral staircase that leads up to a lovely little sitting room with 50's rattan furniture. This room is adjacent to an area that has a large sauna, a shower and a bathroom Views are to the back and the side of the property. Back downstairs, the large and pretty guest powder room is off a hallway that goes to the front entrance hall. Next to the powder room, a door opens onto a back patio and courtyard where there is a dining table and chairs and a BBQ. The parking area is near this, with many potted flowers. There is a play area with a trampoline and a tree house. A large room is the holding area for golf equipment, wet things, Wellies and other active wear.

The bedrooms are reached by the front stairs and a back stairway. Going up the front stairway, there is a wide landing that has an armoire, two antique rocking chairs with needlepoint covers and a great old horse lamp.

Schufro is the first bedroom. This enormous corner bedroom has twin beds with beautiful fabric headboards and matching bed spreads. There is a dressing table and chair, six easy chairs, a secretary, a chest of drawers, a highboy. Four tall windows overlook the Estuary and the countryside. It has its own entry hall that has a very large closet area with built-in cupboards. The very large en suite bathroom has a long, deep tub and a separate shower stall, beige tiles, orange peony wallpaper, two windows that face the meadows and trees.

Donnerhall Bedroom's theme is horses (the family raises Donnerhall horses in Germany). There is a king bed with a coral fabric headboard and bedspread and an antique fur throw over that. The room has an antique mirrored armoire, a large chest of drawers, two comfortable easy chairs, a bookcase that holds a music system. A chest at the foot of the bed - and the curtains are a playful pattern of riders' clothing and gear. Wallpaper is yellow and beige stripes.

Two large windows look to the side grounds. The adjacent bathroom has a long deep tube with a shower over tub. Vintage fixtures and the walls are a perfect soft aqua. Many horse drawings hang on the wall and two windows look over the side gardens. Brendan Bedroom has a wider-than-usual single bed which is probably better for one person, but it could work for two smallish adults. Silver fabric is on the bed, headboard and windows. There is a chest of drawers, an armoire, a demilune table. There are pastoral paintings on the soft golden wallpaper and a large window that faces the woods. This is a smallish room, but lovely and dreamy. The crisp, white-painted en suite bathroom has a shower stall and white and gray floor tiles. Shamrock Bedroom has twin beds that have blue and pinkish-coral bed spreads and headboards that match the curtains, the chaise lounge and the dressing table seat cover. There is a large armoire and bedside tables. Wallpaper is white embossed, carpeting is peacock blue. Art has soft colors. Two large windows overlook the side gardens. Some might say that this is the prettiest bedroom, but it's difficult to choose. The large en suite bathroom has a long, deep tub and shower over tub, peony and vine wallpaper, a large window that overlooks the side courtyard.

A long, bright hallway leads to the remaining bedrooms. Frieda and Paul Bedroom has a gorgeous antique mahogany king bed and matching bedside cupboards. A chaise lounge at the foot of the bed us covered in olive-green silk. There is a large antique armoire, a comfortable sofa and ottoman, a feminine desk, a small pedestal sink in the corner of the room. Wallpaper has bouquets on a pink background; the wall-to-wall carpeting is coral. Two large windows look to the water and the front gardens. The large en suite bathroom has a long, deep tub with a hand-held shower and a separate shower stall. The wallpaper is beautiful: gold-green background with blue and coral humming birds. A short hallway leads to the SophiaGloria Suite. A sitting area has a huge Empire sofa, a round table with an antique tea cozy, a low Empire chest and chest of drawers. An Oriental rug is laid on the original pine floor. The separate bedroom has twin beds with beige and olive stripped fabric headboards and matching bedspreads and bolsters covered in lovely sherbet colors. There is a sweet antique undies holder hanging on the wall. Two tall windows look to the front and the water.

The large en suite bathroom has a long, deep claw foot tub with a hand-held shower and a separate shower stall. The wallpaper's custom-designed cow motif is fabulous and the woodwork, painted by a local artist to resemble a meadow, adds to the humor. The Holstein motif is carried through the decor down to the fingernail brush. A window overlooks the side garden border and an enormous rhododendron that has pink blossoms. You can enjoy the garden view - and the cows on the walls - while you relax in the tub.

In all of the twin bedded bedrooms, the beds can be pushed together, if you request that.

There is a new (spring 2010) apartment in the courtyard of the house. It is available for rental only as an adjunct to rental of the main house. It consists of an open plan sitting room, dining room and kitchen. There is, of course, a TV and Internet access in the apartment. The bedroom has an armoire and chest of drawers and a king bed. This apartment can sleep 3 with 1 on a fold our sofa bed in the sitting room.

The garden, filled with mature flowering trees and shrubs, has garden furniture for alfresco meals. The property includes four hectares of incredible gardens which are actually a park. Hydrangeas, camellias, roses, palms (yes, palm trees in Ireland), borders, mature shrubs and trees provide shade and fragrance and privacy and a chance to forget about the world's woes for a bit. The greenhouse has tropical vines and lemon trees.

There are over forty acres of forest on the property and meadows in which to stroll. Walk to the waterfall and photograph or draw its beauty. The estate is working farm. The milk and cheese that you eat for breakfast is "this morning fresh" from the 500 cows who graze in the 300 hectares of pastures. Children love to visit the cows and watch the state-of-the-art milking system. Children are warmly welcomed here. There is a tree house, a trampoline and table tennis. The friendly farm manager lives on site and he is available, if needed. The house has a security system.

Curracloe, one of Ireland's nicest beaches (Saving Private Ryan was filmed here) is nearby. There are four 18-hole golf courses within a twenty mile radius. Historic Wexford town has many cultural activities, including the Wexford Opera Festival. The climate is temperate year-round. Beach walking has no season here. In Wexford town, there are excellent restaurants, authentic pubs, very good shopping, cinema, and an opera house. Nearby Enniscorthy has a dog racing track which is very popular with locals and visitors.

And, of course, there is golf. Rosslare's links course is nearby s is the 18-hole championship course at Mount Juliet in Kilkenney. Powerscourt Resort Golf Course is open to the public. Kinsale, in County Cork, is home to the fabulous Old Head Golf Course. If you prefer not to drive from Dublin, a shuttle service is available from Dublin Airport for Ä100. There is a helipad on the estate. Rosslare is 30 minutes. Dublin is 80 miles/128km. Wexford is 5 miles/8 km. The nearest village, Castlebridge, is under 2 miles/3.2 km.

High speed internet in each bedroom.
